Program: Tonight’s program was about the Miss Medina & Miss
Teen Medina County programs. The girl’s who participate in these events serve
as speaker for key events, youth & civic groups, churches and schools. They
perform their talents for community events and fundraisers and emcee conventions
and trade shows. They also work in cooperation with the City of Medina and the
Mayor’s office as an ambassador of the community for organizational meetings
and community events. Three of these young women spoke to us this evening about
their platforms and all of them agreed that the Miss America program helped them
to develop into who they are today.
Courtney Kania: Miss Teen Medina County 2002. Courtney likes to spend a lot
of time with people who want to better our world. Her platform is the
implementation of a high school level peer support program to address issues and
concerns on drugs, alcohol, relationships & peer pressure in an environment
that is safe & comfortable for the individual. She has a special talent as a
Harpist and you may have seen her performing at many of the community events.
Meghan Markovich: Former Miss Greater Akron 2001. Meghan originally chose to
work with minority issues & racism, but realized that education on the
dangers of alcohol abuse was really needed. She works with MADD, SADD, and DARE
in Akron. Meghan will be graduating this December from the University of Akron
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business & Organization, Communications
& Public Relations.
Melissa Trapp: Miss Medina County 2002. Missy has been promoting her platform
of Disability Awareness and Prevention with an emphasis on spinal injury
fundraising and research. She is involved with the Christopher Reeves Foundation
as well as her own local fundraising projects. Missy plans to continue her
education in Law School for Medical Patents.
